Primarily correspondence and miscellaneous related items dating between 1 June 1854 and 17 Oct. 1854, addressed chiefly to JRA as president of the Planters Bank of Fairfield, Winnsboro, from various South Carolina businesses, including Bank of Camden, Bank of Chester, Bank of Hamburg, Exchange Bank of Columbia, Planters and Mechanics Bank of South Carolina, Charleston, Bank of the State of South Carolina (Charleston, S.C.), and Union Bank of South Carolina (Charleston, S.C.). Some transactions document internal improvements, technological developments, such as a letter, 9 Aug. [18]54, Columbia, S.C., from Sam[ue]l W. Kennedy to [H.L.] Elliot, Winnsboro, S.C., discussing plans for completion of installation of the telegraph lines for the Columbia and Charlotte Magnetic Telegraph Company. Two receipts, 9 July 1858 and 13 June 1860, for money stolen from the U.S. mails by Jesse Rabb and recovered by John Burdell, chief of police, Columbia, S.C., indicating money to be refunded to owner, C. Austin of Georgia, and reward paid to the captors of Rabb.
